What Is A Powered Pallet Truck?A Powered Pallet Truck is a motorized pallet moving mechanism that is used to lift and move pallets from one area of a warehouse to another. Their ability to easily lift and move pallets, whilst maneuvering through the busy and often compact areas of a warehouse make the Powered Pallet Truck a valuable asset to any company that uses them. They make the movement and stacking of product easy and eliminate the possibility of injury of a worker who might try to move and stack heavy product without the assistance of a Powered Pallet Truck. An operator of a Powered Pallet Truck will find themselves standing on a platform located at the rear of the truck. While some versions of the Powered Pallet Truck will have a seat, this is a rarity. The machinery is made of steel, and is generally of high grade and quality. A coating of Zinc is often used to ensure against corrosion. The Powered Pallet Truck is manufactured in such a way so that it can withstand the often non-avoided abuse that it will encounter in a warehouse setting. With the operator in the rear, the Powered Pallet Truck is then steered with the forks lowered so that they can slide into the space provided by a pallet. The forks are inserted so that the load of the pallets are distributed onto the forks of the Powered Pallet Truck. This allows for the movement of product which can weigh up to 3,000 pounds. The forks are often tapered so that they can more evenly distribute the weight of the pallets, and also to prevent slippage of the pallets. Once the pallets have been successfully loaded onto the forks, the Powered Pallet Truck can then move the pallets to their intended location. The forks are used to not only hold and move the pallets, but also to lift them should they need to be stored or stacked upon shelving or other pallets. In order to safely use a Powered Pallet Truck, operators must often be trained, and continue to be trained on their safety and proper use. Some jurisdictions even call for a Powered Pallet Truck operator to hold a special license.
